Discovering Cupping Therapy: A Path to Muscle Relief – Kipper Lam Physiotherapist

Cupping is a beneficial technique for releasing soft tissue tension and promoting overall health.

Clinicians create a vacuum effect using either flame or a pump, allowing the cups to stay, glide, or flash on the skin. This suction draws muscle tissue into the cups, helping to release tightness, break down scar tissue, improve blood flow, and clear out metabolic waste while delivering essential nutrients to the muscles.

During treatment, many patients experience tension on corresponding tissue. Discolouration may appear on the skin, indicating wear and tear on the underlying tissue. Common side effects include redness, bruising, soreness, and fatigue. Marks typically fade within 3 to 7 days, depending on individual severity and metabolism.

It’s important to note that cupping has contraindications. It should be avoided in cases of open wounds, acute injury/ inflammation, fragile skin, during pregnancy, etc.

Always consult healthcare provider before trying cupping therapy to ensure it is appropriate for your specific condition and needs.

Embracing cupping can be a valuable addition to your wellness routine.
